The Most Terrible Poverty

In a world of 6 billion, it seems pretty hard to be alone.
Why, then, does it feel so easy to be lonely?

Sure, we might be surrounded by people, but on the inside, how many do we actually take in?
When we aren't around the ones we want to be with most, it's suddenly as if we weren't around anyone at all.

Whose fault is this?

Are we too busy absorbed in our own world to see that we really shouldn't feel sorry for ourselves, that we aren't really alone?

Or, is our despair legitimate?
A puzzle piece that doesn't fit with the other pieces around it is bound to be left out.

Until that fit is found, perhaps we are destined to be lonely is a crowded world.

And with that thought, Pray that your loneliness may spur you into finding something to live for, great enough to die for." -Dag Hammarskjold (Swedish United Nations Official)

Is this irony, or are you looking for somewhere to fit in? Because I'm pretty sure you have friends, unless you don't even like them.

Sure, friends are great for hanging out with, but in my opinion, the kind of friends you speak of doesn't even come close to the kind of "friendship" I'm looking for.
