"Cool Hand Luke"

Lets face it:
Lawlessly roaming the wild west with the Sundance Kid and on practically every salad dressing bottle in the house, this guy was sure to make an impression on a little guy like me.

But Paul Newman was more than a household name, he was a hero.
Doing what he loved and helping others along the way, he set the perfect example.

He was handsome.
He was great at what he did.
He was an gentleman and a philanthropist.

And now, on the news of his death, I wonder
Where am I headed with my life?

Sure, I might not be on the Big Screen when I grow up, but one doesn't have to be to change the world.  Mr. Newman simply took what he had given to him and used it to make the world a better place.

If I land in just one of Paul Newman's footsteps along the way, I'll know I'm headed in the right direction.

°Rest In Peace°

Thoughts on a quote I came across...

My advice to you is not to inquire why or whither, but just enjoy the ice cream while it's on your plate. -Thorton Wilder

Too often we question things, primarily, why we exist, how the universe was created and what put us here.

Sure, these things are interesting and very intriguing.

But as Mr. Wilder suggests, maybe its not why we're here that matters.

Rather, it's what we make of it.

...Call him a breathing corpse

You know,
Sometimes you get caught up in your dolefulness that you don't consider the optimistic point of view.

"Even if happiness forgets you a little bit, never completely forget about it."
~Jacques Prévert

Sure, this might bring you down when things don't work out...

But doesn't it feel good to feel, dare I say it, happy for a change?
Drowning in your own tears will only kill you.

After all,
false hopes and dreams are hopes and dreams nonetheless.

And who's to keep you from following those dreams?

There's plenty to love, there's plenty to live for, and there's certainly plenty to look forward to.

Perhaps there's nothing wrong with looking up.
Because, in the end, you're the one who decides what brings you down.So don't sell yourself short.
Cause like my man Abe Lincoln once said:
"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be."

The Most Terrible Poverty

In a world of 6 billion, it seems pretty hard to be alone.
Why, then, does it feel so easy to be lonely?

Sure, we might be surrounded by people, but on the inside, how many do we actually take in?
When we aren't around the ones we want to be with most, it's suddenly as if we weren't around anyone at all.

Whose fault is this?

Are we too busy absorbed in our own world to see that we really shouldn't feel sorry for ourselves, that we aren't really alone?

Or, is our despair legitimate?
A puzzle piece that doesn't fit with the other pieces around it is bound to be left out.

Until that fit is found, perhaps we are destined to be lonely is a crowded world.

And with that thought, Pray that your loneliness may spur you into finding something to live for, great enough to die for." -Dag Hammarskjold (Swedish United Nations Official)

And in this race the selfish survive...

If nobody ever lost, there would be no real winners.

But of course,
we don't always win.
And we don't like to lose.

It could be anything.
It could be a game or a match.
It could be the spot on a club/team.
It could even be a relationship.

Whatever it may be, losing sucks.
Admit it, nobody wants to be a loser.

The key is to bite the bullet and get back on the horse.
Sure, you can feel bad. That will only teach you to become better, and to become stronger.

I suppose this has a lot to do with jealousy.
I guess its hard to let things go, especially things that really bring you down.

Maybe my advice isn't the best here, seeing how I can't seem to use it myself.

Im sorry.
I'll try harder next time.

Portia: For Fear I Surfeit

Jealousy.
For some of us, it's more than just an emotion.
It is envy
It's a way of life.
And most of all,
It's a curse.

Why can't we just accept what we don't have and get over it?
Who knows?
But one thing is for sure.

It stings like a police front man.

Do we accomplish anything from feeling this emotion?
Does it increase our Darwinian fitness?
Or is it just an unnecessary evil unleashed by Pandora herself.

Perhaps a better question is:
What can do about it?

The obvious answer? Go after whatever it is you're jealous of.

But sometimes this doesn't work out.
Sometimes you've just wanted something too much, and for too long.

So the backup plan?
Hope to Ford it blows over, and quick.
Because even the biggest storms and the brightest flames must die down eventually, right?

Prologue

YES, it's true.
This is now a blog.

Thoughts written, typed, sketched, etc. are soon to fill the threshold of this inter-webb'd page.

It cannot be deny'd but that the naturall state of men, before they entr'd into Society, was a meer War, and that not simply, but a War of all men, against all men; for what is WAR, but that same time in which the will of contesting by force, is fully declar'd either by Words, or Deeds? The time remaining, is termed PEACE.
- Thomas Hobbes (De Cive, 1651)
Whether or not these thoughts/opinions are fact, they spark interest, debate, and inspire the expression of the mind.

And so it begins...
